WOCON visits Falomo Secondary School Ikoyi Lagos for School Based Advocacy as part of the 16days of Activism Against gender based violence's activities

WOCON representative discussed and also made presentation and a talk to Falomo Secondary School Ikoyi students and teachers about the various forms of Gender Based Violence, and Sex Trafficking a form of gender based violence which majorly affects women and girls.
 
Boys are to serve as Change Agents for the elimination of Violence against women and girls.
 
The Principal, Mrs O. I Onagbola expressed her profund gratitude for such a wonderful time and her school been a benefactor.

The United Nations defines human trafficking as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means (such as force, abduction, fraud, or coercion) for an improper purpose including forced labor or sexual exploitation.

RESPONDING TO THE TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
UNODC’S Theme for this Year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Although the magnitude of the problem of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants in Nigeria is underscored by the lack of empirical statistical data, there is however abundant evidence that thousands of Nigerian women and millions of children are being trafficked externally across Borders and within the country.

On Tuesday 2nd May 2023 WOCON partnered with Denny Social Welfare Hub through the Nigerian Eonen  Association Verona, on the "EYEFON" project co-funded by Ministero Dell' Interno, Nigeria Women Association Verona, Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, Nigeria

 

Project sensitized the Lafiaji community on the island against the dangers of Irregular migration and Trafficking in persons

 

Stakeholders present included community elders, male and female, faith based leaders such as pastor, Imam and a female traditional leader, Yeye Olokun.

 

Prevention of Irregular Migration and Trafficking in Persons in Nigeria

On behalf of International Organization for Migration (IOM), WOCON implemented a Project funded by the European Union titled ‘Prevention of Irregular Migration and Trafficking in Persons in Nigeria’ at targeted communities of Owode -Apa and Seme in Lagos State and Ajegunle and Idiroko in Ogun State where 257 youth including Artisans, young women and students from secondary and tertiary institutions were trained and sensitized against human trafficking and irregular migration.

Promoting Better Management of Migration in Nigeria

WOCON implemented on United Nations office on Drugs & Crime (UNODC)’s behalf a European Union-funded Grassroots Awareness Campaign Project under the Promoting Better Management of Migration in Nigeria Project in the targeted communities of Badagry and Oyingbo.

This Project sensitized the beneficiaries who were at least 50 vulnerable at risk women and youth who could fall easy prey to traffickers’ dynamic recruitment methods including those who were rescued through Open air, market and motor park campaigns in each targeted community.

STOP CHILD LABOUR: GENERATION SAFE AND HEALTHY 2018.

Over the years, hundreds of thousands of children throughout the world have taken part in the Global March to ban child labour, How can we not do everything in our power to free each child on this planet from this scourge? How can we fail to free ourselves from our personal ans professional blinkers that prevent us from seeing abuse and injustice?
