WOCON CELEBRATING WORLD’S DAY AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING 2020

THEME: COMMITTED TO THE CAUSE- WORKING ON THE FRONTLINE TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING

 

The United Nations defines human trafficking as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means (such as force, abduction, fraud, or coercion) for an improper purpose including forced labor or sexual exploitation.

 

ECOSOC: CALL FOR NGOs TO APPLY FOR CONSULTATIVE STATUS WITH UN

The United Nations has requested Women Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON) as one of the holders of its special consultative Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) status to spread the news about the upcoming deadlines for NGOs who do not yet have this status so they can apply for it. 
 
We are currently few weeks away from the 1st June 2019 deadline for NGOs to apply for the ECOSOC consultative status in order to be considered by the 2020 NGO Committee. 
 

WOCON Lagos Team paid an Advocacy Visit to the Force Intelligence Board

In observance of Worlds Day Against Child Labour, WOCON Lagos Team paid an Advocacy Visit to the Force Intelligence Board (FIB) at the Force Headquarters at Kam Selem House Obalende. Present in the House were 20 FIB Top officials of the Intelligence Unit who listened with rapt attention as the Director of Programmes spoke about the very sad state of Child Labour in Lagos State and indeed Nigeria.

On Tuesday 2nd May 2023 WOCON partnered with Denny Social Welfare Hub through the Nigerian Eonen  Association Verona, on the "EYEFON" project co-funded by Ministero Dell' Interno, Nigeria Women Association Verona, Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, Nigeria

 

Project sensitized the Lafiaji community on the island against the dangers of Irregular migration and Trafficking in persons

 

Stakeholders present included community elders, male and female, faith based leaders such as pastor, Imam and a female traditional leader, Yeye Olokun.

 

GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM WOCON IN OBSERVANCE OF 16DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

As is our custom every year, Women's Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON) joins United Nations Women (UN Women) and the rest of the world to observe the 2020 16 days Activism against gender-based violence, which is an international campaign to stand against violence against women and girls.
 
This Campaign runs between 25 November to 10 December every year.
 
This Year's UN Women UNITE Theme for this Campaign is Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!
