The United Nations defines human trafficking as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means (such as force, abduction, fraud, or coercion) for an improper purpose including forced labor or sexual exploitation.

RESPONDING TO THE TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE
UNODC’S Theme for this Year’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons

Although the magnitude of the problem of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants in Nigeria is underscored by the lack of empirical statistical data, there is however abundant evidence that thousands of Nigerian women and millions of children are being trafficked externally across Borders and within the country.

WOCON visits Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development

WOCON Paid an advocacy visit to the Ogun State Ministry of women affairs and Social development and the Federal ministry of Labor to further renew her commitment to the empowerment of women and children.The cordinating director of ministry of women affairs and social development in person of Mr. Olumide Sotubo and the controller of the Federal ministry of labour in person of Mr. Deji Fatoki received the WOCON team with open arms , lauded their efforts in the enforcement of women and children's right and pledged their continuous collaboration with the organization.

Human trafficking in person

On Tuesday 2nd May 2023 WOCON partnered with Denny Social Welfare Hub through the Nigerian Eonen  Association Verona, on the "EYEFON" project co-funded by Ministero Dell' Interno, Nigeria Women Association Verona, Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, Nigeria

 

Project sensitized the Lafiaji community on the island against the dangers of Irregular migration and Trafficking in persons

 

Stakeholders present included community elders, male and female, faith based leaders such as pastor, Imam and a female traditional leader, Yeye Olokun.
