PRESS STATEMENT BY WOMEN'S CONSORTIUM OF NIGERIA(WOCON) TO CONDEMN NEGATIVE PUBLICATION OF SURVIVORS OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING

 

 

It has come to our notice that reporters are reporting or negatively captioning the experiences that survivors of human trafficking share either at meetings or in public places.

 

The Board of Trustees and Directors of Women Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON) condemn this act and declare that it is totally inconsiderate and underserving of survivors who have already and previously undergone emotional torture and painful experiences in the hands of wicked men.

 

GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM WOCON IN OBSERVANCE OF 16DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

As is our custom every year, Women's Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON) joins United Nations Women (UN Women) and the rest of the world to observe the 2020 16 days Activism against gender-based violence, which is an international campaign to stand against violence against women and girls.
 
This Campaign runs between 25 November to 10 December every year.
 
This Year's UN Women UNITE Theme for this Campaign is Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!
 

Child Protection Network

Women's Consortium of Nigeria is a member of CPN Lagos. 
 
What is CPN? 
Child Protection Network is a coalition of NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, government agencies and other stakeholders working to prevent and respond to CHILD ABUSE (Sexual, Physical, emotional, neglect and any form of maltreatment of a child)
 
CPN Lagos was established by UNICEF in 2011 and is further strengthened by chapters across the 20 LGAs in Lagos. Chapters also exists in almost all states in Nigeria.
 

Human trafficking in person

On Tuesday 2nd May 2023 WOCON partnered with Denny Social Welfare Hub through the Nigerian Eonen  Association Verona, on the "EYEFON" project co-funded by Ministero Dell' Interno, Nigeria Women Association Verona, Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, Nigeria

 

Project sensitized the Lafiaji community on the island against the dangers of Irregular migration and Trafficking in persons

 

Stakeholders present included community elders, male and female, faith based leaders such as pastor, Imam and a female traditional leader, Yeye Olokun.
