WOCON’S WOMEN’S POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT, DEMOCRACY AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

Trafficking in persons means "The movement or transportation of a person from one place to another by any means and through fraud, deceit, coercion, deception, for forced labour or services, slavery, or practices similar to slavery or servitude"
Do you know that:
Despite the fact that the incidents of trafficking in children in Nigeria had been going on as far back as the 60s, the public recognition and focus on the issue however heightened only since the mid 90s. The recent awareness of trafficking in Nigeria resulted from the publicity generated by the deportation of trafficked persons for prostitution to Europe and the Middle East, which started in 1994.
WOCON is the foremost center to focus on gender, health and human rights, and combines strong commitment to service and advocacy with Human rights education in Nigeria and the sub-Saharan region of Africa.
Women Rights in Nigeria
Women Rights in Nigeria Women's Consortium of Nigeria was founded by Mrs. Bisi Olateru - Olagbegi because of her concern for the plight of the Nigerian woman, and the gender persecution and violations of their human rights they suffer throughout their lives due to ignorance, superstitious beliefs and poverty.
WOCON has been engaged in various programs and activities for the enforcement of the rights of women and children particularly the Girl-child in Nigeria since its inception in 1995. We are also strong advocates for the entrenchment of sustainable democracy and good governance in our country.
