GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM WOCON IN OBSERVANCE OF 16DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

As is our custom every year, Women's Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON) joins United Nations Women (UN Women) and the rest of the world to observe the 2020 16 days Activism against gender-based violence, which is an international campaign to stand against violence against women and girls.

This Campaign runs between 25 November to 10 December every year.

This Year's UN Women UNITE Theme for this Campaign is Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!

Our heart goes out to millions of women and girls across the globe who are or  were victims of any form of violence especially as statistics confirmed a spike in violence against women and girls during the lockdown measures introduced due to the pandemic.

No doubt violence against women and girls is also a pandemic and a state of emergency and in solidarity, we choose to take action to fund, respond, prevent and to collect.

Our many activities include:
- Visit to Shelters where victims of violence are, to offer our support
- A school-based advocacy in a senior secondary school in Lagos State to sensitize against gender based violence.
- An Advocacy visit to a
Police station to jointly deliberate on how this menace can be curbed in our area of operation
- An Advocacy visit to a lawyer who works pro bono with women victims of domestic violence to offer our support to survivors

WOCON today, calls for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls and continues to condemn and to say NO to all forms of violence against women and girls everywhere.
